Datuk Sebastian Ting
MIRI: More reforms this year will make Sarawak stronger and more prosperous for all, said Piasau assemblyman and Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP)
secretary-general Datuk Sebastian Ting.
He pointed out that the past year has seen many achievements and much transformation in the state under Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.
“The achievements and transformations were not easy but with the strong leadership and aspiration from the Chief Minister, we are able to lay out a grand blueprint to develop Sarawak to greater heights and rapidly,” he said in his Chinese New Year message.
Ting said nationally, Sarawak is moving seriously in asserting its rights and special privileges as clearly promised and agreed upon under the Malaysia Agreement 1963.
“We Sarawakians must continue to stay united and speak in one voice. It is our dream to see Sarawak becoming developed one day,” he said.
On the Year of the Dog, Ting said it would be welcomed with great hope as a dog symbolises loyalty, friendship and sincerity.
“As the New Year begins, let us also start anew,” he added.
Meanwhile, Miri Mayor Adam Yii called on the public to prioritise family this festive season.
“Give top priority towards the family this Chinese New Year festival by going back to your homes and traditionally visiting parents and relatives must be the number one concern for those working away from their hometowns,” he said in his Chinese New Year message yesterday.
“Love in the family must be strengthened in order to overcome the difficulties and challenges we will face in 2018, so going home is a must for those with parents and family and relatives, as nothing can replace your family – not even your work and spending quality time with your loved ones is what we should be doing.”
Yii said it is very important for everyone to remain positive and productive in view of the challenging economic situation and the upcoming parliamentary election.
“All of us will need to make decisions based on wisdom so that we will continue to prosper and progress and to face these coming challenges, families must rely on their love for God,” he advised.
