LIMBANG: The state government plans to build more industrial estates as well as entrepreneur centres known as ‘Anjung Usahawan’ for small and medium enterprises throughout the state.

One of the areas where the facilities will be provided is Batu Danau in Limbang, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said.

“If you want to expand your business, you must upgrade your business skills too as the technology has changed,” he stated when officiating at the Food Handling Certification Programme here yesterday.

Awang Tengah, who is also Minister of International Trade and Industry, Industrial Terminal and Entrepreneur Development, also said the government through the relevant ministries would assist in promoting the products of entrepreneurs through existing programmes, grants and assistance.

On the event, he called on the food entrepreneurs to look at every opportunity and explore the vast global halal market.

He said the halal industry in the country had undergone improvement to add value to products and enhance food premises through recognition of halal certification from the Malaysia Islamic Development Department (Jakim).

“The halal certification standard used by Jakim has received worldwide recognition. Therefore, it is important for entrepreneurs to obtain Jakim’s halal certification to enable their products to enter the global halal market.”

In the aspect of financial assistance, he said federal agencies in Sarawak also provided such monetary assistance to the entrepreneurs.

“For example, the Agro Bank has provided a total of RM47,257,726 in financing assistance to 1,338 entrepreneurs in Limbang district.”

Also present were Batu Danau assemblyman Paulus Palu Gumbang, Sarawak Agro Bank regional director Abdul Halek Abdullah, Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (Miri/Bintulu Region) officer Nordin Mus, Limbang deputy Resident Sebin Abang and Limbang district officer Superi Awang Said.
