MIRI: The mystery deepens over the whereabouts of an 11-year-old schoolgirl who has been missing for the past 24 hours.

Police here have called the girl’s family for questioning since this morning.

The elder brother of the girl lodged a police report, saying she failed to show up after school hours at 12.30pm on Tuesday.

He said the girl was to have waited in the school compound after school for a cousin to pick her up and send her home but she was not at the usual waiting place.

Police have received information that she was seen entering a car after school.

The car has been found abandoned in the outskirts of the city centre.

Miri police chief ACP Junaidi Bujang confirmed to reporters here that an investigation is underway but at the moment could not say if the girl was abducted or had willingly left with someone she knew.

He also confirmed that the girl had not been located (as at noon Wednesday).

The primary school where the girl studied is located not far from the city centre.
