MIRI: A longhouse with 23 living quarters at Kpg Kuala Tutoh Marudi in interior northern Sarawak is about to collapse into a river due to erosion.
The Fire and Rescue Department in Marudi and Miri was alerted about the erosion that started in the early hours of Sunday.
Its chief Supt Law Poh Kiong said heavy rain had resulted in the riverbank slopes breaking apart.
There are two blocks of longhouses in the village - one with 23 living quarters and the other with 47 units.
The one with 23 units is 15 metres from the river and is in danger of falling into the river, said Supt Law.
Firemen are trying to reach the site which is about five hours by gravel road from Miri city.
