Miri City council to act on unlicensed budget hotels

MIRI (Bernama) – There is an urgent need to tackle unlicensed budget hotels as their lack of fire-prevention measures makes them death traps, inadvertently becoming a bane to the Miri City tourism industry.

The Miri City Council (MCC) has pledged to act against the management of unlicensed budget hotels.

It is conducting inspections of such premises to ensure their operators get certification from the fire and rescue department and comply with safety regulations.

Miri City Mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang said stern action would be taken if unlicensed budget hotel operators failed to comply with regulations.

He said while the authorities welcomed operators of different types of accomodation to the city, those who failed to get certification from the fire and rescue department must clean up their act as soon as possible.
