MIRI: Mega Hotel handed over a total of 148 gifts to Sunway Student Volunteers for the pledge programme called ‘Shoebox Christmas gifts’ yesterday.
Shoebox Christmas Gifts is initiated by a group of individuals who are not affiliated to political nor religious groups, with the aspiration to make a difference in lives through the simple form of giving.
The corporate social responsibility (CSR) project, along with gifts collected from the hotel, will be given away to children at Rumah Empaga and Kampung Setingan in Beluru Bakong.
Meanwhile, the first-leg of the Shoebox Christmas Gifts totalling 120 gifts was handed over to students in Long Jekitan of Ulu Baram two weeks ago.
The CSR project was initiated in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah in 2010 whereupon this year, the Shoebox Christmas Gifts was set up in Sarawak, particularly in Miri.
Shoebox Christmas Miri representative Joseph Koh said Mega Hotel is the first hotel in Sarawak to be the partner of choice for the project.
“We are indeed very happy to see the overwhelming contribution from the public for Shoebox Christmas though it is the first time we organised such CSR in our hotel and in Miri particularly,” said Mega Hotel communications manager Jenny Chen. Moreover, she said the hotel will adopt this noble project as part of its yearly CSR event during Christmas as part of the cause to extend assistance to the needy not only in urban but rural areas as well.
