MIRI: Plans to improve the facilities at Piasau Garden Recreation Park are in the pipeline, to enable local residents enjoy a safer park.
When visiting the site on Tuesday, mayor Adam Yii told reporters that currently, the recreation park comprises a basketball court and a playground.
“I was told that the local residents appeal for a roof over the basketball court so that they can conduct activities without worrying about the weather.
“Therefore, after visiting the site, we (MCC) and the state government will look into this,” Yii said.
Other facilities to be added to the park include a public toilet.
“The park is quite popular with young and old residents living nearby. Adding a public toilet would provide convenience to park visitors,” he said.
Yii’s entourage was joined by Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting, who supported the proposed project.
Later, Yii visited Pei Min Middle School, in response to an appeal by the board of directors of the school for the drain outside the school to be upgraded to address flooding problem.
“We are looking at a smaller drain now, which is right outside the school. Extending it to 186 metres in length and one metre wide could possibly help the flood situation,” Yii said after being advised by city engineer Chai Ko Heat.
The drain upgrading project falls under the jurisdiction of Miri City Council (MCC) and work will commence soon after confirming the project details.
