Man attacked by friend in shopping complex

MIRI: A 50-year-old man sustained injuries after being assaulted by his friend with a hammer at a shopping complex in the city centre on Thursday.

The victim claimed that in the 7.20pm incident the 42-year-old suspect had also kicked him apart from hitting him with the hammer before the security guards intervened.

A mobile police vehicle (MPV) was summoned to the scene after receiving a report on the incident, and arrested the suspect. The arrest was confirmed by city police chief, ACP Khoo Leng Huat.

The suspect is under police custody at Miri Central Police Station (CPS) for questioning. The case is investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means. The cause of the incident has yet to be determined as investigations are underway.
