MIRI: The 74-door Long Ikang longhouse in the interior of northern Sarawak was saved from a major fire by its squad of volunteer firefighters.
Miri Fire and Rescue Department chief Supt Law Poh Kiong said the fire started at one of the kitchens shortly after midnight on Thursday (July 25).
“The fire spread to three other adjacent kitchens and the volunteer squad managed to douse the fire before it spread further,” he said.
Supt Law added that the Long Ikang voluntary Bomba unit was trained and equipped by the Miri Fire and Rescue Department.
Long Ikang is in the Baram district and is about four hours away from Miri.
