MIRI: The Lions Club of Miri Mandarin will hold a public health forum at Imperial Palace Hotel here on March 19, to heighten awareness with a focus on varicose veins.

The event starting at 12.30pm is organised in collaboration with Gleneagles Hospital from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah and assisted by the Lions Club of Miri Central.

Five specialists and three consultants from Gleneagles Hospital in Sabah have been invited to present the talks and health scannings.

Interventional Cardiologist & Physician, Dr Ahmad Saharaf, will give a talk on ‘Cardiovascular Disease in Malaysia’.

A General Surgeon and Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon Dr Benjamin Leong will emphasise on ‘Ugly Varicose Veins: Are they dangerous and how to get rid of them’ and then conduct the venous duplex scanning.

“The scanning will be given out for free for the first 20 participants on a first come-first serve basis,” Lions Club of Miri Central president Regina Teng said yesterday.

As admission to the forum is free, this is an opportunity for the public to attend the talk to obtain in-depth information on health, especially on varicose veins. It is important for everybody to know and take pre-emptive precaution as prevention, Teng said.

Lions Club of Miri Mandarin president Albert Ong said the forum would be the first of its kind to be held locally, and also its first activity of the year.

“We take this initiative for the benefit of the people, so therefore do not miss it to know more about health in every aspect as it is of paramount importance,” he added. There would be lots to learn and acquire for your own interest and advantage, Ong assured. The event will end with a Q&A session and refreshment.
