Kuching North wins award
KUCHING: Kuching North City has been adjudged one of the 10 most environmentally sustainable cities in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean).
Kuching North received the Asean Environmentally Sustainable Cities Award 2008 in Hanoi, Vietnam, on Wednesday.
The award ceremony was held in conjunction with the 11th informal Asean Ministers’ Meeting on the Environment.
It was presented by Vietnamese Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Pham Khoi Nguyen to Kuching North City mayor Abang Atei Abang Medaan and was witnesed by Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Datuk Douglas Uggah.
This is the second award Kuching North is receiving this year in recognition of its commitment to become a sustainable city.
It won the National Sustainable City Award last June for implementing programmes such as integrated solid waste management, recycling, city cleaning masterplan, tree planting and landscaping, river cleaning and waste water management.
