MIRI: Several South Korean tour agents are in Miri to identify suitable winter golf holiday packages.
The agents toured Miri to check out golf courses here after visiting Brunei.
Led by delegation leader Cindy Yun, the tour agents had a meeting with Sarawak Tourism Assistant Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin.
They also checked out the five-star Miri Pullman Hotel.
Yun told reporters they had flown from Seoul to Bandar Seri Begawan before crossing the border into Miri.
“Our clients who are golfers are seeking winter holiday packages in Borneo to play golf.
“They want to get away in November, December and January to locations where there is plenty of sunshine.
“There are nice golf courses here and good food too,” Yun noted.
Lee, who is also Senadin assemblyman, said his ministry, Sarawak Tourism Board and local tour operators would come up with golfing packages catering to South Koreans.
He said he had spoken to Royal Brunei Airlines which flies three times per week from Seoul to Bandar Seri Begawan.
“We will also create tours that will include Niah and Mulu.
“These Korean golfers are big spenders and so are the Japanese, Chinese and Taiwanese who often charter flights out of their countries during winter to places where they can play golf.”
Lee said the tour agents are also interested in Kuching and Sibu.
“They are planning to come up with a package tour and golf challenge which will include golfers from China and Japan.”
