Joint SFC-Marine Police raid uncovers illegal sawmill ops in Long Lama

A SFC personnel points at the timber products, which bear no ‘JH’ hammer mark.

MIRI: Enforcement personnel from Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) Miri Regional Office and members of the Marine Police jointly conducted a raid on a sawmill at KM23 of Jalan SK Long Keseh Lama recently.

The operation resulted in the detention of 16 logs of ‘Belian’ (local ironwood)

“Some of the detained logs have property marks, but these have been verified as illegal due to the absence of the ‘JH’ hammer mark,” said SFC in a press statement issued yesterday.

The enforcement team also seized from the site a forklift, three heavy vehicles, three generator sets and a bandsaw, believed to have been used to process timber.

“The success of the raid was made possible by the cooperation between the agencies; therefore, more joint operations with other enforcement agencies would be conducted to eradicate such illegal activities,” said SFC chief executive officer Zolkipli Mohamad Aton.

No suspect was arrested during the raid.

A report was later lodged at Long Lama police station.

The case has been handed over to Forest Department to facilitate further investigation.
