IT advices needed

  1. I am currently using an aspire laptop (since 2005), model 1690 (or precisely 1692WLMi). Recently i tried to purchase Win7 premium, but the shopkeeper said my laptop’s software unable to support it (eventhough i have all the original cd software). Is that true? My current laptop spec is Intel M processor 740 (1.73Ghz), 1.25G RAM, 30GB empty storage left.

  2. Anybody knows any laptop (11’’ or 12’’ laptop) at good spec (i5 processor and 4GB RAM ect). Currently i don’t see any suitable laptop within this range in miri. By the way, money is not an issue here.

The laptop can run the OS, but you will have problem finding the driver that would work with Windows 7.

its true, Acer does not support win7 drivers for that model

if money is no issue then I would get this: http://www.dell.com/us/p/alienware-m18x/pd.aspx
a little bit bigger (18") but no problem

Guess my current laptop stuck with win xp forever… . Nevermind, after using it for 6 years, i think it’s time to get new one then.

That’s why i am looking for 11’’ or 12 ‘’ laptop, i want to avoid big size (as well as heavy) laptop. The nearest spec is acer ferrari, but somehow shortage of usb port :? . But that was 2 years ago… even than i don’t see it anymore in miri’s shop.

With Windows 8 coming up i think i would hold it out for just a bit IF ur not in a rush? most system now dell or asus price range around 2k-3k is good enough.

Release this year means arrival to local market end of this year (or next year) - provided no software issues. Even then i don’t foresee that soon coming out to 11’’ or 12’’ laptop. What to do aaa… same goes to S3

Well wait a few more months for Windows 8 to be released and bundled with the new laptop. If you have to get a laptop urgently it should be okay too since Windows 8 should have no problem run on current machine anyway. You just hope the manufacture will produce Windows 8 drivers.

Well, actually i kindda need to burn some handycam movies for family viewing during gawai festive this year, my current laptop cannot do that (stupid 3rd party program cannot burnt MTS files correctly). Pirated Win7 will block the burner (not all features can be use).

Anyway, those who has bought laptop within this 1-2 years, are the laptop installed with a genuine Win7 or Vista ? I’ve seen a brand new laptop with pirated OS WIn7 unable to burn DVD.

Who says cannot. I assure you it can be done. You just need the right software.

try looking for Dell Alienware M11x, it a 11" lappy, it got most of the thing u need, beside the CDROM, which u might want to buy an external one…

Ok… next month after offshore then will check that item… if it is still there.

Is it? Guess mine is quite tough then coming to 7th year… in fact i push my laptop to the limit with so many games, surfing, movies and so on.

Nah… i plan to keep it nicely in display cabinet together with my 8 yrs old MP3 player + 9 yrs old discman + 10 yrs old 3310 ect. Nostalgia pok. Let my future grandkids see them in 30 years time.

bro i think u r a bit bias in ur statement…
if u look at lowyat forum, which is where the IT pros gather, u can see tonnes of negative remarks about Asus http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2212590
i have got 1 hp, 2 acers and 1 asus of my own, all have failed me except HP which i have been using for 6 years.
warranty support i get from Acer has been excellent and one has already aged 4 years, still running up and strong.
My asus sent for claim took pretty long time, but so far so good also.

i would say most of the time, it depends on luck. i was with samsung repair centre for LCD tv. some lucky ones never have problem for 5 years, some can have problems even after 1 month. wat say u?
