MIRI: An improved drainage system has helped to prevent flooding at Kampung Pujut Tanjung Batu this monsoon season.
On behalf of the residents, village chief Usman Suleman thanked the state government for upgrading the system.
In the past, some of the villagers houses will be knee-deep in water during heavy downpours. This is due to poor drainage, which reduced water flow and led to floods.
But now with the improved drainage system, the water is flowing much faster and there is no flood problem, he said yesterday during an inspection of the completed project by Assistant Minister of Communication Datuk Lee Kim Shin together with Drainage and Irrigation Department personnel.
So far there is no more flood problem in this kampung after the improvement project was completed and we hope this will continue on for a long time to come, he said.
The project included the installation of four flood mitigation gates, implementation of storm drains and the deepening of Sungai Dalam, which flows through the village.
