MIRI: Husini Bakir, 49, from Bakam has been appointed the first district officer of Subis District.
He officially received the appointment from acting Miri District Officer Sharifah Rafidah Wan Razali at Bekenu Community Hall yesterday.
Husni has served as Sarawak administrative officer (SAO) for Bekenu sub-district since 1996.
He thanked Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem for granting the people’s wish to turn Subis sub-district into a full district.
“They have been waiting for more than 20 years and now the dream has finally come true.”
Meanwhile, Assistant Minister of Early Childhood Education and Family Development Rosey Yunus congratulated the people of Subis for achieving full district status and a first district officer.
She said the elevation of Subis sub-district to a full district proved the chief minister’s commitment to further accelerate development in rural areas.
“This elevation will help us to be more focused in channeling development agenda in Subis which comprises Bekenu and Niah.
“The people here would not have to travel to Miri just to make applications related to matters with Miri District officer. Now, they can deal directly with Subis District Office.”
Miri Resident Antonio Kahti Galis, Sibuti MP Ahmad Lai Bujang and community leaders from Bekenu, Niah and Lambir were also present to witness the handing over of duty.
