KUCHING: A total of 10 dilapidated government pensioners’ houses in Kuching, Samarahan and Miri received assistance for improvement or repair under the National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS) 1Pesara.

Public Service Department Deputy Director (Development) Dato Jalil Marzuki said yesterday the purpose of the programme is to help the needy government pensioners.

“There are a total of 10 programmes, 5 of them are implemented by the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak and another 5 by the Malaysian Construction Academy,” he said at the handing over of a pensioner’s repaired house at Lorong Bentara 7, Samariang, Petra Jaya here yesterday.

Jalil added the qualification for this programme is that the home owner must be a needy government pensioner with his or her own land and house where the house condition is bad.

He said an allocation of RM14, 000 is given for each house to be repaired. The work is to be completed in 14 days’ time.

Also spoke at the ceremony was Bomba state director Nor Hisham Mohammad who said 5 full-time Bomba personnel would do the repair.

He added that the Bomba welfare club also contributed RM2,000 for the repair purpose.

Meanwhile, the house owner yesterday is 71 years old Ali Satem who lives together with his wife and 5 children. Two of his children are still studying and one is disabled.

Ali previously worked as a general assistant at Brooke Shipyard in Kuching. He is now a part-time security officer.
