BINTULU: Heavy rain late Tuesday night brought havoc to several locations here as trees and a utility pole tumbled down amid strong wind.

Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Bintulu chief Mohamad Meramit said the local fire station received a total of three calls regarding such incidents, albeit involving no injuries.

“The first call came in at 12.47am involving a collapsed electricity pole at Kampung Sebiew.

“Five Bomba personnel were dispatched to the scene to remove the pole, which came down after being hit by the roof of several homes that had been blown off by the strong wind.

“There was no report of injuries, although three vehicles were damaged by the blown-off roofs,” he said when contacted yesterday.

Mohamad added that utility company workers were called in to cut off the power supply to enable removal works to be carried out.

The subsequent two incidents both involved fallen trees, with the first occurring around 5.50am at Mile 10 Bintulu-Miri road and the second, in front of SK Bintulu about 7.30am.

“Both incidents did not result in injuries to civilians. One Bomba personnel sustained minor injury during the clearing work and sought treatment at Bintulu Hospital,” he said.
