Head of State feted to State Banquet

MIRI: Head of State His Excellency Tun Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Hajjah Ragad Kurdi Taib were feted to a State Banquet in conjunction with His Excellency’s 80th Birthday, here in Miri on Saturday.
During the event, Tun Taib also was presented with a birthday that he cut. The cake cutting was witnessed by his wife and Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem and wife as well as distinguished guests accompanied by a birthday song played by the D’Cipta Band.
This was followed by a number of entertaining ‘evergreen’ songs by D’Cipta Band. Thereafter a number of cultural performances and dances by the Kumpulan Tarian Jatti Miriek. These were followed by a special presentation by young Abdul Halim who rendered a number of top hits of the late Tan Sri P. Ramlee.
Renowned artistes Musly Ramli and Salwa Abdul Rahman from Kuala Lumpur were also featured with renditions of their own popular songs after an Orang Ulu dance presentation. Ending the event was a performance by a cultural troupe Kumpulan Sanggar Budaya Miri.
Later the Royal Malaysian Police Marching Band played the National Anthem Negaraku and State Anthem Ibu Pertiwiku to mark the departure of Tun Taib and his wife from the ceremony.
Also present were the Deputy Chief Ministers. Federal Ministers, Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker, Cabinet Ministers, state assemblypersons, heads of departments, community leaders and award recipients and other dignitaries.
