Hardy storage - Transcend StoreJet 25MC

Today, many would be tempted to purchase an external SSD to store their content. However, there are several reasons why traditional external hard drives, like the Transcend StoreJet 25MC (SJ25MC), are still relevant today. For starters, this external hard drive offers 1TB of storage space. An external SSD that features the same amount of storage space would likely cost double. Additionally, while SSDs are indeed more durable, the SJ25MC comes with military-grade shock resistance, thanks to its hardy silicone outer case and built-in three-stage shock protection system.

Speed: Mechanical disk vs SSD
It’s also common knowledge that SSDs offer faster transfer speeds than HDDs, but when you’re using an external drive, the speeds are limited by the USB interface, which means both SSDs and HDDs provide the same maximum transfer speeds in an external form factor. In the SJ25MC’s case, it comes with a USB 3.0 Type-C cable, allowing for a theoretical maximum transfer rate of 625MB/s. Other features of the SJ25MC include a Quick Reconnect button that allows you to quickly reconnect the drive upon performing a ‘safe removal’ via Windows OS. This eliminates the need to unplug the drive.

In terms of performance, we performed our usual CrystalDiskMark test, which ran at nine cycles of the 4GB load. Here, the SJ25MC was able to give us a read and write transfer rate of 142MB/s and 136MB/s, which is respectable for an external drive. As for our real-world test, we timed how long it would take to transfer about 40GB worth of files to the device. It managed to do so in just under six minutes, at a transfer rate averaging 130MB/s.

Softwares to protect your files
Apart from that, this drive also comes with free software, such as ‘Transcend Elite’ and ‘RecoveRx’. The ‘Transcend Elite’ data management software lets you manage your files easily, and even encrypt them (using AES 256-bit encryption!). ‘RecoveRx’, on the other hand, lets you recover deleted files from a storage device.

We also took a look at the ‘Transcend Elite’ software that came bundled with this drive and found that the software is easy to use, while performing tasks like backing up data and encrypting files or folders are made incredibly intuitive. Put simply, the SJ25MC is a storage solution that everyone can appreciate. It’s sturdy, offers great transfer speeds for those with notebooks and desktop systems with USB 3.0 USB Type-C connectors, and comes bundled with some rather powerful software.

Conclusion:
This speedy and feature-rich storage solution would definitely appeal to anyone in need of external storage.
