Government has experience to handle kidnap issue — Wee

MIRI: The Federal Government will not sit back on any issue affecting the safety of the people in the country but will safeguard the safety of the people at all costs, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Wee Ka Siong.

“The recent kidnap of four persons from Sibu is not new to Malaysia’s citizens and the government has the experience to handle the matter including the negotiation.

“Such issues have to be handled conscientiously with high professionalism. The government will do anything and look for

every means to secure the release of the hostages,” he assured the media during a press conference when visiting Barisan Nasional (BN) N. 75 Senadin Datuk Lee Kim Shin’s Operation Centre at SUPP Senadin branch office yesterday.

Wee said this to slam Democratic Actions Party (DAP) for harping on the kidnap issue in their campaign to instigate the people and asked whether the government had done anything for the hostages.

He said DAP should view this matter rationally as it was not suitable for them to play the kidnap issue during the 11th Sarawak General Election.

He added that it would be better for DAP to look at how to help the hostages’ family members, such as through giving moral support.

Earlier, Wee was briefed by Lee on what he had done for his constituency.

Wee gave high marks to Lee’s report card which showed his efficiency in delivering service as a representative for the constituency.

He said Lee was a visionary man with clear direction and he had done a lot to transform Senadin constituency into what it is today.
