KLANG: A Form One student was killed while her cousin fractured her leg when the fuel tank of a lorry broke loose and hurtled towards the bus stop where they were standing on Wednesday.
Puganeswary, 13, and her cousin C. Vimala, 14, had been waiting for a bus to go to school when the incident happened at around noon.
The 1.7m-long fuel tank of the lorry travelling from Klang to Banting hit Puganeswary on the head and neck.
An ambulance called by members of public took the girls to the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital here.
Puganeswary died shortly after being wheeled into the hospitals emergency unit but Vimala was lucky to escape with a fracture.
Traffic chief Deputy Supt Rosly Abdul Rahman said police had taken a statement from the 35-year-old lorry driver.
Puganeswarys father, C. Devindran, 41, said the two SMK Telok Panglima Garang students usually waited for the bus near Kampung Black Water along Jalan Banting-Klang.
Devindran, who works as a forklift supervisor in in Port Klang, said Puganeswary was the eldest of his five children.
Should the tank exploded, another hoo haa about the state of safety in Malaysia. Wish it happened.
