MIRI: Miri City Council has started blacklisting lazy and incompetent contractors who fail to keep the city clean.
These service providers were placed on a council blacklist and had their contracts withdrawn, said mayor Adam Yii.
Speaking at a press conference after chairing the first council full board meeting for 2018, he said several names were already on the blacklist.
“More may be blacklisted soon. We have already issued warnings to them to buck up with their cleaning, landscaping and drainage projects.
“Warnings will be followed by blacklisting of contractors who fail to improve,” he said.
As for the performance of the councillors for 2017, Yii said he has received their report cards.
He said a brainstorming session would be carried out soon.
“The performances of various committees will be scrutinised and used as basis for improvement this year.”
On rabies, Yii said Miri and northern Sarawak were still free of the virus.
“Thankfully we do not have any rabies cases and we want to make sure it does not spread to this region.
“The latest case is in Julau which is in central Sarawak,” he noted.
Yii added the council will also be organising the Chinese New Year Bazaar from Feb 9 to 15.
The Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry is helping to coordinate the bazaar.
