MIRI: Fourteen trainee seamen completed the Marine Rating course at Pelita Maslaut Sdn Bhd in Lutong yesterday.
According to the company’s managing director Masni Amit, the trainees had completed the three-month course and would go for their practical at Sibu Shipping Industry, Bintulu Port and Kota Kinabalu.
“These local youths have completed their Marine Rating course and will attend job training at these shipping industries,” said Masni during a ceremony to mark the completion of the course held at its academy in Lutong.
Masni said todate, Pelita Maslaut academy has produced nearly 2,000 seamen since its establishment and some of them had upgraded themselves to become ship’s captains, engineers, first officer and second officers in their respective shipping companies.
He said the academy was proud to play its role in producing youths from all races in the state to become qualified seamen to cater for vast opportunities in the global shipping industry.
Meanwhile, Pelita Maslaut is calling on eligible youths especially from Northern Sarawak to take up its course on Deck Apprentice which starts next month.
Masni said application for the course is now open and eligible youths can come to the academy to get further details from the staff there.
