Four dead and six injured in four road accidents in S'wak

MIRI: The night and pre-dawn hours saw four people killed and six injured in four serious road accidents throughout Sarawak.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department, in its updates, reported that Bomba units responded to emergency calls for help from 8pm on Sunday (July 21) to 5am on Monday (July 22) in four districts.

Three of the deaths included couples.

In Miri at about 8pm on Sunday (July 21) at the Luak Esplanade 10km from the city centre, a car collided head-on with a four-wheel drive.

The car, with the couple in it, was heading from Miri towards Bintulu, while the four-wheel drive with two persons were coming from the opposite direction.

The couple in the car, Scot Mewan and wife Caroline Anthony, both in their 30s, died on the spot from the collision.

The other two were rushed to Miri Hospital with injuries.

At 8.30pm, at the Samarahan bridge 30km from Kuching, a couple on a motorbike crashed into the bridge divider.

The motorcyclist, Mohd Jamil, was killed. His wife, who was the pillion rider, was taken to the hospital.

At 10pm, at KM34 of the Sri Aman to Serian section of the Pan Borneo Highway, two cars collided head-on. Three people were injured, one critically, and they were all rushed to Sri Aman Hospital.

At 5am, at the Semariang to Kuching highway, a 25-year-old man died in a fatal crash. Rewan Baseng died on the spot when he rammed his car into a tree after losing control of his vehicle.
