Four collared for suspected involvement in online gambling

MIRI: Detectives from the central police station (CPS) here conducted a raid on a shophouse in Tudan early yesterday and arrested four men and seized three computer tablets — believed to be used in illegal online gambling activities — from the premises.

Of the four suspects, three are Indonesians — in their 20s and 30s — believed to be workers at the shophouse. Another suspect is a local in his 50s, who might have been a customer.

Police also seized an undisclosed amount of cash from the counter at the premises.

All suspects and the seized items were brought to the CPS to facilitate investigation into the case.

The 2am raid was led by Insp Koay Kok Ping.

Further probe revealed that the seized tablets were provided by the illegal online gambling operator, with the installation of illegal online gambling software inside as part of their modus operandi to avoid the law enforcement.

The case is being investigated under Open Gaming House Act 1953 and Entertainment Ordinance 2000.
