Form 2 student killed while crossing road

MIRI: A 14-year-old pedestrian was killed when hit by a car while crossing the road at Jalan Kuala Baram Bypass here around 11.30am yesterday.

It is believed that the pedestrian Leonard Standly was a Form 2 student at a secondary school in Permyjaya.

He was crossing the road with two other friends when knocked down by a car at the four-lane road.

The car sped off after the accident. It bore a Brunei plate number and the male driver was believed to be a 25-year-old Bruneian.

The victim’s friends were not found at the scene after the incident.

Miri Hospital paramedics who had inspected the victim confirmed his death at the scene.

A police truck transported the body to Miri Hospital for a postmortem.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Earlier, the victim was believed to have arrived at school early to wait for school to start at 1pm.
