Fire leaves family of six homeless

Firefighters work to put out the fire.

MIRI: Six family members were made homeless after a fire razed to the ground their house at KM12, Batu 8, Lambir on Tuesday.

An eyewitness, who was on the main road, said he saw the huge fire engulf the house.

“I was on my way back home from work and, while passing by the area, I saw thick smoke and then the huge fire from the main road.

“ I immediately pulled over and contacted the fire department for assistance,” said the man, who did not wish to be named, at the scene.

Fire engines from both the Miri and Lopeng fire stations went to the scene after receiving a call at 5.30pm.

However, when the firefighters arrived at the scene, the flames had already spread throughout the two-storey house.

The fire also damaged a car parked at the house.

Firefighters ended their operation at 7.40pm.
