FIC, Middlesex University collaboration allows diploma holders to obtain degree in one year

MIRI: The collaboration between Fajar International College (FIC) and Middlesex University, London will be further strengthened to benefit graduates of the college and secondary school students wishing to pursue tertiary studies at the university.

FIC marketing manager Sian Chong Jin announced the good news recently following his participation at the four-day collaborative partners meeting session and visit to London.

Under the new arrangement, the Colleges diploma graduates in Occupational Safety and Health (Dip OSH) are qualified for the final year degree programmes with greater ease, in terms of the application process, he told The Borneo Post in his press statement yesterday.

Since FIC and Middlesex University inked their collaboration agreement in 2009, there were many Dip OSH graduates who completed their final year in BSc (Hon) OSH.

This arrangement enables them to complete their degree in one academic year which enables students to save time and reduce costs tremendously.

The Dip OSH is the only diploma that gained recognition from the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), besides the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) accreditation in East Malaysia.

As such, graduates can register themselves as `Safety & Health Officer (SHO) with DOSH upon completion with relevant working experience.

According to Sian, the most sought after programme for FIC graduates was the BSc (Hon) in OSH under the School of Science and Technology.

This is an inspiring environment where students have access to expert staff and an extensive range of laboratories, workshops and studios.

The diploma obtained accreditation and recognition from the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health, United Kingdom (IOSH-UK).

This confirmed the OSH diploma offered by FIC was of international standard where the course content was duly assessed and complied with global academic requirements on occupational safety and health, Sian said.

Middlesex University had been preserving its excellent reputation in education for over 130 years with consistent recognition by the Quality Assurance Agency for the highest standards in teaching and is internationally recognised for research that left an impact on peoples lives.

It created opportunities for students to work alongside lecturers and professors who drew their research, professional experience and expertise in their field.

Based in North London, the universitys campus featured a real international culture with students from over 140 different countries.

The state-of-the-art campus, one of the best in the UK, was nominated for the `Best Facilities award in the inaugural Guardian University Awards.

To date, it has invested over 200 million pounds to provide an outstanding learning environment for teaching and research.

Sian said Middlesex University accepted FIC DipOSH graduates into their final year of the B.Sc (Hons) in OHSE.
