Miri police chief calls on residents to beef up safety and security

MIRI: Miri police chief ACP Abang Abdillah Abang Othman yesterday called for everyones cooperation to enhance safety and security in Miri as criminals were not selective of their victims.

They strike anyone regardless of whether rich or poor, Abdillah commented on an incident where thieves struck a tuck-shop run by two blind men at Tudan Phase 4 resettlement area in Miri division.

James Enseling and Jackson Munggal suffered losses of more than RM1,000 in sundry goods to thieves who gained entry after removing panels from the shops walls.

The victims were about to start their business on Friday morning when they discovered that their shop had been ransacked and all the sundry goods cleaned out.

The victims who are also street musicians also lost their musical equipment. They immediately lodged a report at the police station in Lutong.

Abdillah said the case was still under investigation and called on the public with information to come forward to assist police.

To enhance aspects of safety and security in Miri, Abdillah called on the public to cooperate with the police by giving them information and feedback. They must call the police when they come across suspicious behaviour or acts. This will help police prevent crime.

Meanwhile James and Jackson voiced their concern on the practice of some settlers who rent out their houses to foreigners. They believed that the majority of the tenants were Indonesians working as odd-job labourers.

They urged the authority concerned to look into the matter.

It boils the blood to read news like this. It’s time to look into the efficiency of the police. Are they lacking in numbers? Are they spread too thin throughout the city? Are would-be thieves being encouraged by the recent crime surge and lack of police coverage?

May those who did this rot in hell.
