MARUDI: The people have much to thank the Armed Forces for in safeguarding the sovereignty
and peace of the nation, said Assistant Minister of Public Utilities (Water Supply) Datuk Sylvester Entri Muran.
He said without the army they would not be able to enjoy peace and stability which in turn had enabled the government to bring progress and prosperity to them.
Entri, who is also Marudi assemblyman, said this when speaking at the opening ceremony of the Mobile Community Transformation Exhibition jointly organised by the Armed Forces, Residents Office and Marudi District Office at the Baram Civic Centre here yesterday morning.
He thus called on the people to visit the exhibition so that they know the various development programmes that have been and will be carried out for them.
He also explained to them the Jiwa Murni programme carried out by the army for the rural people and told them to make use of the free health screening provided at the exhibition.
Major Mohd Roslaini Bujang, representing the commanding officer of the 20th Battalion Royal Malay Regiment based in Miri, also spoke at the function.
Later, Entri presented hampers to some 20 needy people and RM100 each to 19 poor individuals.
Earlier on, a cooking competition was held which was won by Julia Hasbi, with Norita Abdullah and Hajijah Bujang in second and third places respectively.
The 20th Battalion of RAMD Miri performed a demonstration followed by a brass band and
other performances which delighted the crowd.
Among those present were Marudi district officer Mackos Sibong, information officer Joseph James and Penghulu Ayub Hassan.
