Enough Sugar Supply In Sarawak For Fasting Month And Hari Raya

KUCHING, Aug 22 (Bernama) – The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry Tuesday assured the people that there would be sufficient supply of sugar in Sarawak for the coming fasting month and Hari Raya.

The ministry’s state enforcement director, Rodin Mamat, said checks would be stepped up to ensure there would be no shortage of the commodity.

He said that there was enough supply of sugar in the market and if there were problems of people having difficulty getting supply, it was due to panic buying by certain quarters in view of the coming fasting month and Hari Raya.

Rodin said Sarawak received 6,500 metric tonnes of sugar supply a month which was enough to meet consumer needs.

Citing a study, he said the monthly sugar consumption in Sarawak was only 1.8 kilogrammes a month.

“The amount can be reduced to 1.2 kg per person if we practise a healthy living lifestyle. It will be better if we drink Chinese tea which requires no sugar,” he told a press conference here Tuesday.

I don’t think Miri lack sugar supply but Kuching yes. My mom had to buy sugar from her friend.
