MIRI, Tuesday 28 September 2010 (Bernama) – The Barisan Nasional (BN) machinery will adopt a new strategy in the next state election, Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) president Tan Sri Dr George Chan said.
He said all those involved in the machinery had been conditioned well to execute the strategy and to counter the opposition’s tactics in the election, which is due anytime between now and July next year.
“(The strategy is) very much different (from that of the past elections). They (the election machinery) are very well-prepared this time,” he told reporters after a closed-door meeting with some 300 members of the state BN component parties here.
Other than the SUPP, the state BN also comprises Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) and Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS).
In the last state election in 2006, PBB won 34 of the 71 seats, SUPP 11, PRS nine and SPDP eight…
Dr Chan, who is also the Deputy Chief Minister anticipated that the opposition would resort to demonising state leaders in their bid to win votes.
He said the state BN was prepared for these onslaughts and had tuned its machinery to counter allegations made by the oppositions.
“They cannot take on the management of the government as Sarawak government is among the best managed governments,” he said.
On the closed-door meeting, he said the participants were those playing important role in running the BN machinery.
“I have told them that we cannot afford to lose in this election just because our machinery is not good enough and unable to counter whatever the opposition is putting up,” he added.
