Miri MP Dr Michael Teo is urged to seek funding from the federal government to construct affordable housing at
Permyjaya Tiga, Kuala Baram in Miri.
Assistant Minister of Housing and Public Health Dr Annuar Rapaee said that land for the project has been approved by the State Planning Authority (SPA) since Nov 10, 2016.
“The project has been approved for the construction of 278 units of affordable housing but when
we submitted for additional funding under the third rolling plan of the 11th Malaysia Plan to the Ministry of Housing and Local Government, it was rejected, and as such, the project did not kick off.
“Since Dr Teo has said he would try to bring in 8,000 affordable housing units to Sarawak, then this (Permyjaya Tiga) is one of places to build them,” he told a press conference at the Media Room of the State Legislative Assembly here yesterday.
Dr Teo has said on Thursday that the 8,000 houses for Sarawak was announced by Minister of
Housing and Local Government Zuraida Kamaruddin during her visit to Samarahan earlier this year.
He hoped that half of the number (of houses) would be built in Miri.
Dr Annuar, who is also Nangka assemblyman, also hoped that the promise to allocate 8,000 houses to Sarawak would come to fruition.
“If he (Dr Teo) can bring the project here, it would be good since it’s the people who will benefit (get the affordable housing).
“We propose that this (Permyjaya Tiga) is the best place for him to bid for because it is already approved and he doesn’t have to look for another piece of land.”
Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting was also present at the press conference.
