KUCHING: Members of the public are urged to refrain from speculating over the motive of PKR Miri branch secretary Bill Kayong’s murder and have trust in police investigating the case.

This was said by the State Crime Investigation Department (CID) chief, SAC Dev Kumar Sree Shunmugam at a breaking of fast with Royal Police Malaysia (PDRM) at Masjid Al-Mujahidin, Tabuan Jaya here, Monday.

“We hope the public will not speculate on the matter and spread rumours as this will jeopardise police investigation,” he said.

He said for now police were looking into three possible angles, namely native customary rights (NCR) conflicts, NGOs conflicts and also Bill’s personal matter. He also said no arrest has been made so far.

“We need more time to investigate the case and also vivid evidence before making arrest. At this moment, we need the cooperation from the public to have trust in us and we promise we’ll try our best to leave no stone unturned,” Dev Kumar said.

He appealed to members of the public who have information or witnessed the incident to come forward to assist in the investigation.

The breaking of fast was attended by Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Hajah Ragad Kurdi Taib. Also present were state Commissioner of Police (CP) Datuk Mazlan Mansor and Kuching North City Hall mayor, Datuk Haji Abang Abdul Wahap Haji Abang Julai.
