MIRI: Police carried out ‘Ops Bersepadu Jenayah Ambang Merdeka 2017’ from 9pm on Dec 31, 2016 to 2am on Jan 1, 2017 and inspected 377 vehicles in various locations around the city.

According to city police chief ACP Khoo Leng Huat, the main objective of the operation was to ensure a peaceful New Year celebration here.

“The police are working hard in its bid to maintain law and order while ensuring a smooth celebration without any unpleasant events,” he said yesterday.

No arrests were made during the five-hour operation which involved 46 police personnel of various ranks.

However, 16 summonses were issued for various traffic offences like driving without a valid license and having expired road tax.

The operation was conducted in Permyjaya, Marina Bay, Bulan Sabit, Morsjaya, Canada Hill, Boulevard, Pelita Commercial Centre, and Miri Waterfront.
