City councillors inspect missing link

MIRI: The Miri City Council (MCC) has an ample allocation for the implementation of minor projects such as drains, roads and street lights.

Deputy chairman of the its city services standing committee Cr Bruce Chai said such allocation would enable the council to conduct small projects that needed immediate attention.

MCC do have enough allocation to address problems with drains, roads and street lights in the areas under its jurisdiction, he said after inspecting the missing (drain) link at Jalan Swee Khim in Krokop 3 recently.

A resident in the affected area, Foo Kim Siong, has complained to Chai about the missing link that was causing water from the roads to flow into his house compound.

Although the situation is not serious, it is a disturbing issue to my family nevertheless, said Foo, adding that they had been facing the problem for more than 20 years.

He thus requested the local authority to construct the 500-metre missing link to connect existing drains in the area.

Chai said he would bring the matter during the next standing committee meeting for further action.

Councillor Keith Chin, Cr Kok Yung Kai and Cr Sim Poh Giat were also present during the site visit.
