CIA reveals 2012 rank of which countries people live longest

Ever wonder people of which countries live longest? You don’t have to anymore, it has been answered by the CIA’s latest update to its World Factbook an official reference resource that is available online.

We are always awed by those lucky people in Japan, who are well-known for their longevity (Japan topped the chart from 2005 to 2010) Well guess what, Japan is no longer at the top - there are 2 more ahead of it now.

So, who among them live the longest life spans?

Monaco trumps every other countries and territories in the world in terms of the average life expectancy of its citizens. According to the World Factbook, those born in Monaco are expected to live up to an average age of 89.68 years, i.e., a baby born in Monaco today will, on average live until 2101.

But before you are tempted to rush off to Monaco, please do check your bank balances first. Monaco really lives up to its name of being a millionaire’s paradise, and those wanting to live there must deposit 400,000 Euros in a Monaco bank before taking up residence.

Macau comes in second, beating off Japan. The tiny Asian micro-state, riding on casino boom, now boasts the most developed HDI in Asia, with a quality of life now comparable to some of the best European states. In Macau, where residents are expected to live up 84.43 years, it is non-stop day and night entertainment activities.

A similarity between both is that the two are gambling cities. In fact, gambling actually does play a key role in longevity because for Macau and Monaco, tax money from the gambling tables goes to help pay for health care of residents, welfare, subsidies, and building up some of the best infrastructure for the people.

Japan, the traditional long-life nation, ranked third, with an average life expectancy of 83.91 years. The Japanese however, are in immediate danger of being deposed by no.4 Singapore.

Singapore, the fourth longest-living nation whose residents are expected to live up 83.75 years, had seen exponential economic growth in the last decade which saw it channeling massive amount of money to improve quality of life in the country. With the highest concentration of millionaire per capita in Asia-Pacific, Singapore has earned the title ‘millionaire paradise of the East’.

Do certain group of people in the world live longer than others? The answer is unfortunately, yes - if you are born to an East Asian descent, or Western/Central European gene, there is indeed higher chance that you will live longer. Out of the top 10, all of them are of East Asian (4) and Western/Central European (6) majority states.

And is long-life linked to wealth? Not necessary, the USA has the biggest number of millionaires and billionaires in the world, but it comes only at the 50th, in fact, it ranks worse than Bosnia and Herzegovina, who is at the 45th. According to a recent joint research by Credit Suisse and Oxford University, who compiled the most comprehensive studies into the world’s wealth, the Swiss are the richest nationalities, with each of them holding an average assets of US$372,692, more than any other nationalities in the world. Switzerland however, ranked at 17th longest living in the list.
