Check ID of Rela officers, public advised

PUTRAJAYA: The public should ask for the authority card of Rela officers during a raid to ensure they are not impersonators.

Rela director-general Datuk Zaidon Asmuni said members conducting a raid on any premises must also be accompanied by a Rela officer.

This officer is a civil servant attached to the Rela unit. He will have an authority card, with details verified and issued by the national security division in the Prime Ministers Department.

The officer will have his photograph, name and serial number stated on the card. The card is the size of a credit card, yellowish in colour and will have the words Authority Card printed on it as well, he said yesterday.

Zaidon stressed that only Rela officers had the power to enter private premises to search for illegals without needing a warrant.

Those still doubtful about the identity of the card bearer should get in touch with the Rela operations room at its headquarters in Putrajaya.

They can find out if the person having the card is really a Rela officer by calling 03-8888 6308 or 03-8888 6314, he said.

Raids by Rela are usually carried out in teams of at least 15 to 20 people.

We dont carry out raids in groups of only two or three persons, he said, adding that all raids conducted by Rela were also planned well in advance and recorded by the district-level offices.

if i not mistaken, even our police force want to enter private premises without needing a warrant is when they are lead by an Inspector. other than tat… they have no right to do it… which means they need a warrant to enter without an inspector with them… No sure but I think that’s they way…

So if my statement above is true, then RELA sounds more powerful than them ler… :frowning:

if RELA came to my house… i think what i will do is… ask them to wait… because I will not let them just enter my house … doesn’t care what power they have.

I will ask them to wait, then call the police and ask them to come over to my place. Then when the police sudah sampai, baru I will let the RELA go in and search my house if they wish… and make them remove their boots… jangan buat lantai rumah saya kotor…

Sounds like a plan but no sure if real thing happen… can work or not…hehehe…

Robbers who posed as Rela men nabbed

KUALA LUMPUR: Two men, believed to be impersonating Rela officers and responsible for several robberies in the Klang Valley, have been arrested.

The duo, in their 30s, were arrested after their car was involved in an accident near Wangsa Maju LRT station at about 4.30am.

Several policemen, who went to the scene after receiving a call, saw three men in the car. One of them ran away when he saw the police.

Upon checking the car, police found a set of Rela uniforms and jacket in the back seat. They also found a samurai sword, a rambo knife and handcuffs.

It is believed that the gang members had pretended to be Rela members while committing roadside robberies.

Police are investigating the number of cases the gang had been involved in.

Sentul OCPD, ACP K.Kumaran when contacted yesterday confirmed the arrest and said the two men had been remanded to facilitate investigation.

It seems complicated each day. I got the authorization card also, but to such extend that we could enter premises without warrant is not in the Act at all. I believe the civil cervant officer of RELA got the card but they are not commisionned officer (tidak ditauliah atau diwartakan dalam Warta Kerajaan), so they still cannot play the role of the Police…

And the weird things is RELA is under Kementerian Hal Ehwal Dalam Negeri and it’s not under Kementerian Keselamatan Dalam Negeri.

Yes the police could enter premises with court order or warrant with an IO or AIO. IO = Investigating Officer, AIO = Assistant Investigating Officer. The rank range from Sargeant, Sargeant Major, Sub Inspector, Inspector, Chief Inspector, Assistant Supt of Police and some cases towards Asst Commisioner of Police.

And yes, if there is RELA raid going on without any Police or other civil servant law enforcement officer such as Imigresen, please dont allow any of them enter your house. Call the Police ASAP or better yet, call your lawyer… hehehe…

Another confirmation on how to really deal with them… thanks Iqmedia… thanks for sharing…So this mean that Police officer have to be with them when they raid your places… :?:

In a raid, it MUST be accompanied by police officer. The police will either be rank from the constabel to Sub Inspector. No officer from rank Inspector and above will follow them (they got alot of cases than that kinda raid).

The police must be atleast two persons. And, the one who will knock your door is the police, and they MUST show their authority card to you. For low ranking police officer, the color is yellow. For high ranking officer, it’s blue.
