MIRI: Some 1,600 youths from Limbang, Miri, Bintulu and Kapit divisions are expected to arrive for the 9th Youth Rally for teenagers from July 6-8, held in conjunction with this year’s Jubilee Year of Mercy celebrated worldwide by the Roman Catholic Church.

It is organised by the Roman Catholic Church of Miri Diocese.

“The rally is themed Activate II – Mercy. This is the time for mercy, a time to forgive and reconcile. This is the time to join the 2016 Youth Rally to live out the loving mercy that God has for us,” a spokesperson told The Borneo Post yesterday.

Among the activities for the three-day rally are praise and worship, an opening Mass, a talk on mercy, counselling and confession. There will also be a concert night held for all Youth Rally participants on July 8 at 7pm.

Bishop Richard Ng will be the celebrant for the opening Mass while three young priests – Rev Fr John Chia, Rev Fr Andy William Lee and Rev Fr Sylvester Ngau will be the speakers.

Chia, a Chinese and Bisaya descent from Limbang is among the first fruits of the Miri Diocesan Seminary. He was ordained on May 1, 1997. Currently he is the parish priest of St. Francis Xavier, Belaga.

Lee, a Mirian ordained on June 17, 2001 at the age of 25, is the youngest priest ever to be ordained in Miri Diocese. He is currently the parish priest of Gereja Yesus Tuhan, Lapok

Meanwhile, Sylvester, who was ordained to the priesthood on May 1, 2015, is also expected to bring a new flavour and energy to this rally, with his talent in music and a heart for youth ministry.
