Bus passengers complying with inter-zone travel permit requirement

SIBU: Bus passengers here heading for inter-zone travel have so far complied with the requirement to obtain a police permit before departure.

A ticket attendant at Sibu Bus Terminal, who declined to be named, said apart from presenting the police permit, these passengers will also have their temperature taken and personal details recorded before being allowed to board the bus.

“So far all passengers are being cooperative; those going to Kuching have their permits. We only allow them to purchase the tickets once they show the permit, have their details recorded and their temperature taken,” she said.

A passenger has her temperature taken prior to being allowed to purchase a ticket. Those going on inter-zone travel are also required to present their police permit and provide their personal details for contact-tracing purposes.

She added passengers are also required to wear face mask throughout their journey.

“We only have two trips to Kuching daily – one in the morning and the other at night.

“However, the number of passengers travelling to Kuching has dropped since the inter-zone travel restriction was imposed. We only had 13 passengers today (yesterday).”

The attendant said the number of passengers to other destinations such as Miri has also gone down since the restriction was enforced on Aug 1.

The two-week inter-zone travel restriction, which ends Aug 14, was implemented to curb the spread of the second wave of Covid-19 infections, following a spike in cases in Kuching last month.
