Bomba rescues injured Sabahan climber by chopper

MIRI: The Miri Fire and Rescue Department air wing unit deployed a rescue mission to the Mulu National Park to rescue a female Sabahan tourist who fell when climbing the Mulu Pinnacles.

Miri fire chief Supt Law Poh Kiong said Bomba personnel managed to locate and rescue Tan Fung Chu, 35.

“Our search and rescue team located her and winched her onto the helicopter.

“She is being transported to the Miri Hospital now,” he said on Wednesday morning.

Supt Law said the rescue operation was successfully carried out even though there were thick clouds covering the pinnacles.

He said Bomba Miri received an alert from the Mulu National Park management that a tourist had fallen at Mulu Pinnacles Summit Camp 3.

She was said to have sustained backbone injuries in the incident on Tuesday (May 29) evening.

Ground personnel from the Mulu National Park tried to help her but she could not move due to her injuries.

The park management then sought the help of Bomba Miri.
