Body of Nigerian student found floating after Sarawak boat capsize

MIRI: The body of a Nigerian student has been found floating in the lake at the Loagan Bunut National Park following a boat mishap.

He was identified as 23-year-old Nigerian Emine Imoh Daniel.

His body was recovered at 5.45pm on Monday.

Earlier, the body of another Nigerian student – Amate Mohamed Amate, 26, – was found at 12.45pm.

Both were found drowned in the tragedy.

Sarawak Assistant Minister for Tourism Datuk Lee Kim Shin confirmed the news.

“Despite intensive efforts by the fire and rescue personnel and local natives to find them, both were found drowned,” he said.

The two students from Curtin University Sarawak were part of a late night expedition to study crocodiles and wildlife in the park on Sunday.

Their boat capsized after being battered by large waves.

Three other students, a local guide and the boat skipper managed to swim to safety.

Villagers rushed to rescue them at about 7am.

The villagers then radioed for help.

Rescue parties from Miri and Marudi rushed to the site to search for the two victims.
