MIRI: The body of missing crewman Mohamad Saiful Ashnar has been found within the burnt-out wreckage of MV Geos, which caught fire on Tuesday (April 17).
The body of the 31-year-old from Negri Sembilan was found at about 2pm Wednesday.
Thirty-eight others survived the fire that broke out on the offshore drilling vessel in the South China Sea Tuesday morning.
The 3.15am fire razed the ship, owned by a Petronas sub-contractor.
Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency Miri Captain Mohd Fauzi Othman told reporters that the body was found inside the wreck.
He added that Mohamad Saiful’s body has been sent to the Miri hospital mortuary.
The survivors comprise 32 Malaysians, five Indonesians and one Thai national.
Petronas has since said in a statement that the cause of the fire is being probed.
