MIRI: Hundreds of anglers are expected to participate in the Miri Mayfest River Mouth Fishing Competition 2015 to be held on May 24.

The registration fee is RM50 for each fishing rod, while RM70 applies for late registration on the actual day, he said yesterday, adding that the event will take place between 7.30am and 11.30am.

The year-round river mouth fishing competition is organised by Miri Anglers Club in conjunction with Miri Mayfest as well as the 10th Anniversary of Miri City Day.

Hundreds of anglers are expected to show up at the competition to vie for the attractive grand prize of RM5,000 in cash and a trophy, he said.

Meanwhile, second and third place winners will take home a cash prize of RM2,000 and RM1,000, respectively.

Fourth and fifth place winners will receive a cash prize of RM300, whereas sixth up to 10th place winners will receive consolation prizes of RM80, while those placed 11th to 20th will receive RM50.

Marks during the competition will be allocated to live catches that weigh a minimum of 300g.

Additionally, a lucky angler who manages to land a catch weighing above 13.745kg will receive an extra prize of RM300 for breaking the previous years record.
