Attempt to help almost turns tragic

MIRI: The act of a civilian who helped control traffic after an accident at Kilometre 17, Miri-Bintulu Coastal Road near Bakam almost turned tragic when he was hit by another car in an incident on Wednesday evening.

The incident occurred at around 10.30pm when the driver of a car coming from Bintulu to Miri apparently lost control of the vehicle as it approached a corner and hit the man trying to control the traffic there.

According to a source, the victim in his 20s was thrown about 10 metres away and suffered injuries to his head and body. The victim was later brought to Miri Hospital in an ambulance.

In the earlier accident which happened at about 10pm, a car was flung to the roadside drain after its driver lost control of the vehicle at a road bend. The injured driver was helped out of the vehicle and sent to hospital for treatment.
