API Reading Continues To Improve
KUCHING, Aug 23 (Bernama) – Moderate rainfall and favourable wind conditions in the past few days are expected to improve the Air Pollutant Index (API) reading, which was at a moderate level in most parts of Sarawak Wednesday.
According to the Department of Environment (DOE) website, as at 11 am Wednesday, Sri Aman recorded an API reading of 71 followed by Kuching (69), Bintulu (65), Sibu (64), Kapit (62), Petra Jaya (61), Sarikei (56), Samarahan (54), Limbang (46) and Miri (43).
An API reading of 50 and below means the air quality is good, 51-100 is moderate while above 100 is unhealthy.
Tuesday Culture, Arts and Heritage Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim expressed confidence that the situation would improve with the continuous cloud seeding exercises carried out in Kuching, the venue of this year’s national level Merdeka celebrations.
The state had been affected by haze in the past weeks due to open burning in Kalimantan and Sarawak itself.
