MIRI: A day after a Sarawak MP lost his pistol and RM30,000, a senior party leader here fell victim to thieves who broke into his house.
Adam Yii Siew Sang, who is Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) publicity and information secretary, said the thieves entered his house through the kitchen window and ransacked the entire house.
“But they only managed to take my coins estimated at between RM200 and RM300. Other items such as laptops were left untouched,” he told Bernama yesterday.
Yii, who is a prospective SUPP candidate for the Pujut state seat in the coming state election, said the break-in was discovered when he returned home at 3.30pm on Friday.
On Thursday, thieves made off with a bag containing Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang’s Browning pistol and his money, which he had left inside his pickup truck.
State CID chief Senior Asst Comm Dev Kumar Sree Shunmugam confirmed a report was lodged by the Kanowit MP.
Earlier, Padawan district police chief Supt Ng Ah Lek told reporters that the MP had withdrawn the cash for personal use at the Mile 7 bazaar and placed it in a bag together with the pistol.
“The bag was placed on the front passenger seat.
“He returned to the vehicle less than 10 minutes later to find the window smashed and the bag missing,” he said.
Supt Ng said a witness told police that two men, in their 30s, on a motorcycle were seen behaving suspiciously near the vehicle.
He said the pillion rider went towards the truck and was seen running back to the motorcycle less than a minute later before speeding away.
