KUALA LUMPUR, April 18 Barisan Nasional (BN) lost significant ground in its stronghold of Sarawak during Saturdays state assembly election, setting the stage for a shift in government and economic policy as Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak works to regain support.
The government recorded its worst performance in 24 years in the poll in a result analysts say reflects the mood across the country, which could prompt Najib to switch tack in his plan to recapture the ethnic minority vote and restructure the economy to catch up with Asian neighbours.
In Saturdays poll, the opposition won 15 seats in Sarawaks 71-seat state legislature, giving the ruling BN coalition a two-thirds majority. But it was the coalitions worst performance in Sarawak since 1987 when it won only 25 of 45 seats.
Following are questions and answers on how the poll outcome could reshape Malaysian political and financial policy.
More funds for Sarawak development especially more hospitals/Clinics, better schools, better/more roads, more jobs opportunities in government, more scholarships for sarawakian, etc
Give Sarawakian the highest post in all federal agencies in Sarawak
20% oil revenue? Sell them (tanah semenanjung) full price of crude oil or processed oil, anything we get full payment. Why should we get 20% only when it is our oil they dig in our own backyard? who are we? whores? begger? even geylang whores charge full rate. With this we can drop the process fuel for domestic (sarawak/sabah only) consumption price to the minimal possible. Nothing is impossible.
Since MCA / Gerakan / SUPP have failed to help BN capture non-Malay votes since 308, I’m sure they will now concentrate their effort in the Malay votes to help them survive through the next GE. So expect more racial & religious rhetorics from Perkasa, Utusan and those so called NGOs. Also double effort to undermine Anwar and PKR since they can potentially split the Malay votes.
Hahah, they’ve been saying that since 5 years ago, but untill now, many are still using diesel generators and yet BN is giving them things like Labtops, TV, Electronics, etc. but there’s still no electricity there…

Don’t forget the 2000 units Astro that will be distributed to the longhouses. Wonder who will pay for the 2000 units subscriptions?
