Adenan Satem named as new Sarawak Chief Minister

KUCHING: Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud has announced that his successor is to be Tan Sri Adenan Satem, after he announced that he has handed over his resignation letter dated Feb 28 to Sarawak Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Abang Muhammad Salahuddin.
Taib said that Adenan has the trust of not only the other candidates for Chief Minister but that of the whole Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu.
As for his Balingian state seat and by-election possibility, Taib said it would be up to his successor to decide.
He said in Sarawak racial cooperation has strengthened under the state Barisan Nasional leadership. "I could not ask for a better opportunity to lead the state. I enjoyed working with all my colleagues.
Over the years we have learn to understand each other. I think we have had relatively harmonious political development for the last 20 years."
He said economic and political affairs in Sarawak would not be affected by his resignation.
“Native lands will get a chance for development for higher income for the natives,” he said.
“The only sad thing for me is that I’m going to miss the pressure of work and have to learn not to drive like a sportscar, and be more consistent with my age,” said Taib
i heard many complain abt Adenan been selected… just because he is in-law of pek moh…
so, that’s mean you ppl prefer Johari or Awang Ali Tengah ?? for me, he is the best choice among this 3…
Johari is Malay, that’s why Putrajaya prefered him… orang sendiri…
any power struggle within the party after pek moh die, he will bring UMNO in to bail him out…
another reason : Bumi Dayak leaded by minority here ? no racist ya… UMNO said that bumi Melayu can’t lead by other races (minority) …
As for Awang, he is not that experienced compare to the other 2 guys… he certainly not that capable compare to Effendi Nowawi as well…
Effendi is very capable but he chooses business over politics… pek moh look highly of this guy…
Of course personally I prefer Jabu if he is in the consideration… pek moh leave him out probably because Jabu is not muslim…
This is just my personal opinion, no offense to anyone…
I would have prefer if the people decide who should become the next CM and not the ruling party. We should have the selection based on qualification. Not to say on the academic qualification but their track record in operating international businesses. The person that comes to mind is Idris Jala. The widely reported news regarding him was when in 2005, the Malaysian government elected him as CEO of Malaysia Airlines due to massive losses of the company. In February 2006, he announced the airline’s business turnaround plan from a 9-month loss of USD400 million in 2005 to achieving a record profit of USD260 million in 2007 until September 2009. And before that he did the same when he was in Shell. He is more qualified to run Sarawak then any of the current ministers that we have now. Imagine a leader with such a track record at the helm of steering Sarawak into the future. He is also of Kelabit ancestry. I am an Iban and I believed that the CM post should not be reserve for a few ethnic groups only. We already had Iban and Melanau so it high time for other ethnic descent to take over. With the new chosen CM, we see that his age is not that far from the previous CM so there is no point for the previous CM to step down.
Idris Jala is a joke.
if u said he turn around MAS. but he sold MAS asset & not become the business making profit.
Now MAS is going down, why not Idris Jala volunteer coming in again to save MAS ???
I agree with you, Raja… CM should be chosen by ppl…
but we all know it can’t happen in current situation. we just hope for the better in the available choices.
this new CM is going to lead for 1 election only, for sure (due to his age)
Idris is not mentioned, also due to his same religion status as Jabu (u all know la)
pek moh want to make sure his succesor is a muslim… looking at the 4 earlier choices…
Jabu at best, was mentioned as possible caretaker, not CM…
For MAS case, I think Idris had been used by UMNO leaders to run the company…
He definitely not the decision maker. By letting himself been used & blamed :?: :?:
I don’t know how good he is but i do believe that Idris will take over after Adenan step down…
I’d love to see a dayak christian become the CM one day. Christian cannot become the CM… meh? why like that … arrr? Not fair hor! Btw, Sarawak is Land of the Dayak.
My friend, just to share with you a bit more of our beloved Sarawak history … Memories of the Past Public Group | Facebook We’ve had 3 natives and 2 Melanaus as Chief Ministers in the past.
